The teen age known as the barefoot bandit is cooling his heels in the jails tonight after the police in the Bahamas captured him yesterday. 19 year old Colton Harris Moore was arrested after police shut out the engines on the booty he stolen. He apparently arrived in Bahamas a week ago after crash landing a plane he had stolen in the US. Harris Colton with a criminal record going back to age 12 is escaped two years ago from a half way house in Washington State. A self taught pilot, he is wanted for crimes across the US and is suspected at the airport breaking in south east BC. He got his nick name from the fact that he apparently committed himself that he was barefoot, but his age and explore give him a huge following online. Theresa Lalonde has that story.
There’s no doubt Colton Harris Moore is an online bandit hero, not just one but dozens face book fan pages and people playing around with the story. You can put your face in his body or actor you like, Robert Padison or Michael Sara, the bandit hero also has the YouTube bait and there’s T-shirts. The CBC has interviewed his fans.
“Today is Colton’s birthday, and you know this?”
“Yes. I do know that. I mean there’s a lot of information out there in the internet.”
The thing is about so called criminals turned call hero. They’re having an adventure. And these days we got follow that adventure online.
“Each of those successive incidence of stolen vehicle, stolen speed boats, stolen plane, you know breaking into a restaurant and only taking enough food for yourself to eat, leaving choc footmarks on the ground. Always been barefoot those are really strong thing to sort of have this story standout.”
Kemp Edmonds says it’s hard to know how much of the online fur is filled by fantasy.
“Something amazing or makes them laugh that tense to be what the kind of things they share.”
There is an anti barefoot bandit foot page with a small following. More people learn out buying free Colton T-shirt then sending money to fan pages to his defense. Harris Moore apparently has laptop with him when arrested. Fling it in the water as police closed in.

Was busy weekend for conservation officers in Vancouver. They had not one, but two black bears to deal with, once again it’s not the animals but people who will be blamed for problem. Justin Ma reports.
Neighbors can’t help but gotta get him. This 150 kilogram back bear is the latest be caught entering a home.
“The bear did enter a house, poked in by a window, pushed its screen.”
He let officers chasing him through the valley before they track and tranquilized him. He’s tried to run and sack in homes before.
“He’s been a problem bear for several years, been habituated by humans.”
Luckily he’ll get a second chance, he’ll be relocated to North Squamish, just as officers finished dealing with him, they rush off another bear’s been spotted.
“He was afraid at human at a certainly, I mean, what I saw, people must, you know, pop their hands and he was just ignoring them.”
Officers track him down in the bush, this large bear had terrorized the neighborhood, breaking into homes and rummage through garbage. About 7 years old, he’s been captured before, only this time he’ll be destroyed.
“He’s too eventuated to people, and he’s loss of his fears to human.”
Residences say it’s the lesson more people need to learn.
“How sad that happened you know there’s warnings all over the place, don’t leave garbage.”
“It’s human’s problem for doing that, for feeding them garbage.”
This is the second bear to be put down this year. Tow weeks ago officer shot and killed another large bear. It had broken into the cars and sheds and even killed a pet rabbit. Conservationer say if people want to prevent more death, they have to do better job for securing their garbage.

And now for unexpected summer sport, a great way to keep cool and maybe work becoming Canada’s next big skiing sensation. Some young athletes went Whistler this week doing all of that and getting instruction from an Olympic gold medalist. Lisa Johnson reports.
It’ll be a pretty fun summer camp for any twelve year old. But these kids hope to become champion in the Mogul skiing and their coach this week none other than the best in the world.
“I have kids that are really inspired of skiing and I’m trying to pass my passion on.”
We all know where that passion led Alexandre Bilodeau. The Vancouver 2010 Olympics and Canada’s first Olympic gold on home soil. This glacier on blacal mountain was built as summer play ground as the preteen, the future Olympian who was one of the campers themselves.
“It’s fun for me to be back her, another same camp, same place, exactly same place.”
Bilodeau started status season lost on these kids.
“After Olympic so everybody know who he is, it was really cool to get meet him.”
But they had heard Bilodeau a long time before that from the world cup circuit. They’re not casual skiers, in clearly valued, it’s the once a life time experience of learning from the experts.
“They teacher us what they learned from their coach. So it’s like being on the national team.”
One week isn’t much time to learn but they do get a chance to try jumps that will be too dangerous to learn over snow, using this airbag. It’s landing pad so soft in mimic water. Biodeau has tips to improve their technique. But says that’s no the most important part.
“Technical side, it’s good. But I mean they, these kids won’t touch snow until at almost November. So they poise, but anyway they’ll be so stove to getting back to their skis. Just because they been here being skiing with us.”
Bilodeau went on to compete against the skiers who had coach him here and join them on the podium at world cup. He hopes to see some of these campers get there too.

They may still be celebrating or drowning their solos down the Granville Street right now, despite the sunny weather. Many eyes were focused on TV screens today to watch the world cup soccer’s semi-final. Maggie drew that in a viable assignment today.
Fans breath the heat on Granville street to support their favorite tam. Hundreds gather to watch the semi final game between Spain and Germany, tempting many to play a hookie.
“I’m just taking a little break and I’ll make up for late tonight.”
“I don’t think you are alone though.”
“No. I think a lot of people are taking break right now. It’s the feast to watch the game.”
Inside the Granville street pubs, people give new meanings to term business lunch.
“We have to watch the games.”
“What’s more important?”
“Work, my career and the world cup. The world cup by just a little bit.”
“I think most of the employers are giving some leave to staffs to come on watch the games. Especially the downtown quarry see a lot of staff taking extra half hour sort of watch, watch good soccer game.”
But that doesn’t mean he is relaxing.
“As soon as I t done, I’ll taxi it all. I’ll get back to work right way.”
Dow the street more of the same, but the international students they don’t work, won’t too worry.
“We can skip like that, that’s OK, world cup is the only one.”
We’re going to win, they shouted, not just for the bottle, it ended up being a cyclic prediction. Outside happiness was in the air, for some. German fans never got the chance to scream or shout, defeated again. Just like 2008, when Spain beat the Germany at the Euro Cup. German fans have to be happy with the consolation price, they play Uruguay on Saturday.
“And we went third.”
Their soccer fans once again take over banner and scream it, but not for now it back to work.

The Vancouver Canucks have a new home, it’s the same place, just under a different name. The arena will no longer been known as GM place. It’s now Rogers Arena. The Canucks made a 10 years sponsorship agreement with Rogers communications today. The media giant now has the broadcast naming and the wireless rights for the Canucks. A fist for any company in Canada.
“It’s very exciting, as I said it’s not just the branding expect both on ice and off ice, but also extending in the community, leavening our technologies. And one of the things obviously we believed is that taking the game into the fans where they might be.”
General Motor still had another 5 years on its naming right deal. Bu the company agree to relinquish those rights. It will still be significant cooperate partner though for the Canucks. And there’s been huge amount of reaction to the cooperate name change online today. The internet peanut gallery has been over flooring, since the news broke. Theresa Lalonde has that part of the story.
At first, people on twitter thought Telus will take the naming right. Because the Canucks registered the internet domain name Telusplace.com a while ago. So then the jab started. Why not call it Telusseum. But turned out, it was another cooperation involve, Rogers. As soon as with official, Rogers Arena became the trendy subject on twitter. The website shows the top conversations in Vancouver at that time. You have to notice the irony. Hundred of people on twitter, online people making fun of the fact that telecommunication’s giant taking over the name of the arena. It’s started saying why not name it “lack of customer service place”. But that doesn’t really roll off the tough. Other complains, “Rogers Arena sounds way to Ontario. Toronto’s big ice ring is called Rogers Center. Rovena, Rorena, Rogena.” And saw couples of sweet “brilliant name, we rock, get a beer.”
More joke saying “welcome to Mr. Rogers neighborhood. Expect referees to drop the calls, tickets must be bought with a three year contracts. I’ll soon see the Kenny Rogers in Rogers Arena.” And asking for nick name. the online crowd like the bone booth, although one person online suggested the IDONE, you know IPHONE, IDONE.

It seems like the sun and heat about finally on their way. In the coming day the temperature is expected to climb to 30 degrees. But are our Vancouver really ready for heat wave? Here is Bob Nixon.
The weather officer Rumer Mill thinks sunny hot weather will finally arriving Vancouver this week, after a month of chill. How can people protect themselves?
“Dehydrated, drink a lot of water.”
“Wear lots of sun screen.”
There’s been so many force and alarm about the summer is gonna finally arrive. That I don’t really want get our hopes up too much today, but I did see something on the beach, along the sea wall here, make me think it will happen. And that is full fondle needs. Yes, it is as if the people have reason up, shading long pants on mass to expose their legs join to the sun warming raise. Even so the thermometer never reached 20 degrees in Vancouver on Monday. Can these folks survive what’s coming?
“I’m ready for it, I don’t know.”

“For me it’s like 45 to 50 is normal, so”
“So this one really be a heat wave?”

Well, after a long raining spring, summer is finally here, or isn’t. Our Bob Nixon head to the beach today and was shocked what he found. Here’s Bob.
Old plum, suave warm July, sun for tending, sand for digging, but wait, what’s this.
There is no great indication of the kind of cool summer we’ve had so far. Then to find even on a warm day, a kid who brings a solar blanket to the beach. Her name is Anna Durane, nine years old and when she headed off the Spanish Banks, she came prepared.
“It came to me, I have it.”
“Where do you keep it?”
“In my room. I got it when I were camping and it was really cold day, winter.”
And that is the turned out, she needed it. Sure it was sunny, but the ocean side temprerature never make it to 20 degrees.
“You needed it to a day like this?”
“After you go into the water.”
“How cold you are? How cold was the water?”
“It was actually quite warm, but the wind is kind of strong.”
Shelving not far away is her cousin Katie, wet from the sea and used to the tropics.
“It’s very cold, it’s always raining.”
“Where’re you from?”
“Toronto.”
“How is the weather there?”
“It’s very, very warm, like 30 degrees all the time.”
“You mad a big mistake to coming here?”
“No, it’s fine, it’s just cold.”
Let us hope that is about to change and Anna can put away her solar blanket into summer storage.
