Well, where there’s a fire, there’s smoke and lots hazard. Drifting from British Columbia, halfway across the country, as Susana De silva reports. Those fire’s reign in BC raising health concerns through out the west.

These pictures were taking by a member of fire crews. He’s been all that first line for 22 days, providing first aid.

“Need go to bed, need get up and do it all over again. So you know, they’re amazing.”

With massive fires burning through the province. It’s going to take a lot more help to get them out. The government has announced more than 300 fire fighters are being brought in from Alberta and the North. Cruises were able to get back in the air today and the high winds have passed, leaving fire officials optimistic.

“It’s cooler outside, anyone in the area is definitely feeling that. I think temperature’s at time I were see was minus 2, in the past 24 hours. That’s good news for us.”

More than one thousand people have been ordered out of their homes. So far only 2 houses has been lost along with the handful of barns, but the smoke is affecting thousands more. In Calgary, Edmonton, as far east as Regina, smoke blinded the cities, leading the air quality advisories. Back in Lake Williams BC, only 8 kilometers from the huge fire, the smoke is also heavy.

“Well, pretty smoky.”

That smoke however isn’t stop children in William Lake from playing outside.

“This is being so smoky, you can’t even see that drive way.”

And concern is for those with lounge conditions or other illnesses. The hospital in Williams Lake closed most of its entrances to keep out the smoke and cancelled all elective procedures.

“I was going to get some blood work done.”

“What happened?”

“And they told me, wasn’t urgent. So to come back the next week, keep an eye on the weather.”

Fire official say with the cooler temperature and with no lighting in the forecast. They are optimistic, they can get better handle on the biggest fire threatening BC communities. But still there’s every little rain in the forecast, that’s truly what’s needed here now.
