Parents looking for a childcare were often use recommendations from friends or people they meet on the play ground. Well, wouldn’t it be more efficient to gather those information on a website. That’s why one Vancouver mom decided to do. Theresa Lalonde has that story.
When Karen Yong Chester started to looking for daycare, she went online and was surprised at the lack of information.
“Besides the family and their friends, the school and the daycare is gonna be the most important influence on their lives.”
Chester reacted to the lack of information by creating her own website. The aim of this website is to take the chatting between parents on the play ground and the recreation center online. Theshortylist will offer the information on childcare, the number of children in daycares, teacher child ratio, for school, test scores, satisfaction surveys and other public data. The most important thing for Chester will be the parent input.
“And five them more new wants to description of the schools and daycares their children are going to.”
“When I moving to Canada, that wasn’t in my, who were something I thought I was gonna be struggling that much about daycare.”
“Prenon experience is one of the best way to figure out what parts doesn’t work.”
“It’s good for other parents to know what kinds of condition in daycares, because it’s hard to even find a spot to put your kids into a daycare.”
Critics say daycares and schools shouldn’t be reviewed like a restaurant, where parents can pick them apart.
“I think that the childcare is much more important than a plate of pasta. It far important to rely on an anonymous posting on a website.”
Chester says theshortylist won’t be a ranking site, there’ll be no stars given, just information and comment, so parents feel less glandered and anxious when making their choice. She says similar site exist in UK and US.

Couple of Vancouver entrepreneurs are feeling the power of the internet tonight. Sales of their luggage stickers are brisk, and here’s the weird part, the stickers were almost certainly get you question by airport security. Alan waterman explains.
When it comes to luggage, stickers have long created NV about places travelled. But Ryan Mccormick and Colin Hart come up with the serious stickers to get your bags unwanted attention. Well may looked like a wrapped open cases, seemingly revealing bags of cocaine or bundles of US bills are just photographs. The stickers were launched on their website just ten days ago, but the products has become the buzz of the internet. Sales of the shot into the thousands.
“It’s too large here in Vancouver just comes up some ideas, some one put on our website, takes us like two days to do that and suddenly you know we get a million visit on our website.
“We never, ever, ever thought of them, that it would take off like this.”
“We got sixty visitors yesterday from Kasicstan, I’ve no idea why.”
Just a bit fun, but would anyone actually be brave enough to take them into the airport?
“That’ll be a red flag. It’ll be my opinion.”
“I don’t think I properly get through security. I don’t know.”
“Not a bad idea.”
“Not a bad idea, which is real.”
“Ask those securities.”
But Ottawa doesn’t want anyone messing with security. A spokesman for transport minister John Baird states: Joking about potentially trafficking illegal substances, or worse, is not funny, and the government will use the full force of the law to ensure Canadians who travel by air are safe.”
But the company figures they are on safe legal browns.
“The three of us just been dined and bought the DVD box set of element be and a long order so we preparing a statement this afternoon.”
But also in a society, the company has a serious message for buyers.
“It’s not meant to be brought through security. Let’s be honest this’ll become sad if you want to do that.”

7月，最美的7月
漫长的冬天终于过去，可是今年的春天却依然阴冷、多雨。已经八个月没有工作了，感觉自己快废了，对将来只剩下彷徨。
两年半前来到温哥华，给了自己半年时间，无法生存，就回国。当时同国内公司的关系还没有断掉，只要我回去，一切都会回到从前。到了温哥华就天天发简历，可是却一个电话也没有，到了第九天，终于接到一个电话要我去面试。
“简短得介绍你一下自己。”
“你为什么要来温哥华？”
“你希望的收入是多少？”
这是一家猎头在帮客户找员工。
“好的，明天就去上班吧。地址是。。。。。。”
就这么容易，我找到了在温哥华的第一份工作。虽然是两个月的短期合同，但之后在这家公司，我又应聘到一个一年半的工作合同。就这样在这家公司我前前后后一共做了两年。之后，经济危机来了，我的合同并没有再延续。不过，离开工作的时候，我信心满满，有了两年的本地工作经验，怎么说我再找也会找到比这更好的工作。或者至少类似的工作总是能找到的。觉得在工作中，我最缺的还是英语，所以想利用这段休息时间好好补个缺，这样再就业我就可以再创辉煌。
7月初从阿拉斯加回来，我就正儿八经开始找工作了。简历投出了无数，都石成大海。终于接到一个猎头电话，欣然而往。
“你在这里的工作经验非常有限啊！”
“我很难向我的客户推荐啊！”
“你考个试吧，大概两个小时。”
“考完试我再把你介绍给我们管短期工作的同事吧。”
我考完试，他们给我看了成绩，各项内容都在八十几分，他们说我很不错。只是之后就再没有接到他们的电话。
上周又接到一个要我去面试的电话，这次终于是一个雇主。我去了，先同人事部的人谈了，然后也是考试，然后再是Controller, 最后又是CFO。CFO手里拿着我的简历和考卷，说，“你在这里的工作经验非常有限。你对这里的工作环境的了解也是有限的。”他翻了翻我的考卷，我看到右上角的99，他说：“这几张纸也不能说明什么。你把你的推荐人联系资料给我吧， 我们联系一下再说吧。”就这样折腾了一个下午。走出公司的大门，我心里的是惆怅。把推荐人的联系方式发了过去，两天了，没有回音。于是我打电话去问。
“请问你们是不是已经联系过了我的推荐人？”
“噢，这个位置我们已经找到人选了。”
其实，早有心理准备。
“那请问是因为我哪里的不足。”
“噢，只是别人的经验比你更丰富一点。”

Well the debate continues in the nation’s Capital. We’re getting the first peak at the next year census. The national’s Duncan Mccue has a copy. Duncan.
Peter, some of those long form census questions may seems odd, perhaps intrusive. But turns out they do serve a purpose for municipal powerty, schools even health clinics. Here’s surprising medical news, scraping the long form censuses maybe has this to your health. That’s according to Vancouver’s chief medical officer.
“Because we use the data that collected with the census form to help plus plan programe to improve the health of the population.”
Health researchers take statistics about income, education and employment to built what they called adeprovation index. That allows them to target neighborhood, particularly low income one with proper health programmer. In Vancouver long form census data was resulted in school fitness classes or community gardens. Specially in poor neighborhoods where volunteer survey are less likely to be filled out.
“This question is about need many repairs, some people find that to be intrusive perhaps.”
“They may not realize housing is an important determine to health of the population and the individual of the population.”
“This will be a downloading of the cost to the city.”
City of Vancouver is also asking Ottawa to restate the long form census.”
“In favor of the motion and opposed that carries anomalously.”
The worry form city hall, Ottawa’s downloading cost to municipal tax payers for what the direct of city planning see as a critical information.
“Just about the everything reduced. Starts with census date, starts with good information and then we use that to make policy or good specific decision.”
Without it, municipality may have to pay for surveys to decide where to built community centers or ice rings or plan location for bike lanes and route for public transportation.
“Question 48, what time does this person usually leave home to go to work.”
“Oh, great example, because by knowing when people leave to go to work. We can plan our transportation system around, off peak trips.”
The Vancouver board of trade is also opposing Ottawa’s move to cut the long form. It says small business will surfer such as restaurants or plumbing stores, if they have to pay for information what now collected in the census.

Well bad news, Bob Nixon fans, we’ve seen the last Bob Nixon for a while. Every Sunday night at this time he files one of his cookie stories. Well now he is taking a year off and this is his final report.
So this is my last day at work. Go on vocation for a year. Don’t feel like working that hard. I wonder if other people who go on holidays feel this way. What better place to Canver’s opinion than this Stanley park totem poles. Almost everyone is on vocation. People come from all over.
“I don’t know how to send you an equation.”
Then there are some people who are retired. Others are school teachers. Their last day was slack. And some are just waiting for the US recession to end.
“I actually haven’t work for 7 month and so it’s taking a vacation from vacation. I don’t have to work very hard.”
But if they have a job, chances are on the last day of work they worked.
“Yes, I was so far an account, I was filing myclel and dropping jewery off for people. So, yes.”
“Yes, did I suppose to say my last day I took off, the day before that I worked my normal pace.”
And some people worked even on their vocation. But only one admitted that last day of work drags.
“But I did couple hours of work before we left. The day before I left, then I read a book and then I lay down and then, not a big worker.”
So the concerns are seems be that work is work, play is play and never the twin should meet. That’s how what happen with me today, I got nothing done.

She stepped in to help a woman who was been assaulted by thieves. And that heroic action left her with serious injury herself. Meera Bains has that story.
Benita Anderson needed 8 staplers to her head when she try to help during a violent purse snatching. Today she’s been praised as a hero by the North Vancouver RCMP. Last Saturday mock beginning as a serious violence robbery. The first victim was the 74 year woman at a bus stop near marine drive in Capilano road. She ended up with a broken leg. The Female punched her twice on her face, knocking her to the ground and the male stolen her purse and run off. And two days later at marine drive and hambelton another woman was attacked. She was punched in the face by a female suspect, while a man try to steal her purse and then just moments later another attempted robbery. And it was during the third attack that Anderson decided to step in.
“I did hear some screaming and I came from behind the car and saw her tussling with somebody and then almost immediately pushed to the ground and they were kicking at her. And she was clenching her purse and there was a knot occasion over this purse which I guess this purse was still attached to her shoulder.”
She was slammed by a heavy bag containing which she says sound like food cans. When the couple took off, Anderson ran into the street for help. She was heavily bleeding from the head. A day later, investigators arrested the two people.
“Very quickly able to identify who was responsible for this and get them into the custody the following day.”
And would Anderson do it again?
“Their intention was to hurt both of us, quite badly they have no respect regard, but I, I don’t know what I was thinking. I’m not sure if I’ll do it again, oh, I would.”
27 years old, justin paltry and 36 year old, tammy condor are charged with assault and robbery. The appeal court is on Monday.

When the closing stages of the tour de France, some 350km’s of challenging to rain is ahead until Ryder cycle down the home stretch of the Sarkozy. And Victoria’s rider Hesjedal will be among those in the front pack chasing the yellow jersey. We’ve been following him through out the race. And Alan Waterman has this update.
“That was great performance by Hesjedal by four filled coming up to the finish line.”
Fourth place for one of the toughest stages in the tour de France. Now eight over all.
“It’s unreal, I mean, I feel good in the last part and just gave it everything.”
Ryder Hesjedal is throwing cycling fans with his cline through the rain in cycling most strategist event. His biking buddies gathering the local cycling shop for the last 17 days following their pilot in the orient chaman.
“On the edge of my seat, I loose my voice cause I screamed and feels really good to, you know, to know he is doing that well and everyone else cheer him on.”
Today the leaders rolled in just one minute and 27 seconds ahead of Hesjedal. Over all he is little more than over 9 minutes behind the top spot. And that’s saying something for someone from Canada. Country wide cyclists don’t exactly have the same development opportunities as their European counter parts.
“We were true new beats.”
Alex Stieda was the first north America to wear the yellow jersey when he headed the tour de France in 1986 as for Ryder Hesjedal in 2010.
“To do what he’s done with limited development as he had as a teenager is huge. No question about it.”
But the man who took over hesjedal’s development in his 20’s is not surprised.
“Because he had it, he’s just fond the opportunity to show what he got.”
“I feel really good. I feel like I can get stronger. So, you know, few more days and we’ll be real happy in Paris.”
There are three stages left, three days left for Ryder Hesjedal to retain or even improve pawn’s position and standing come home with Canada’s best tour de France finish in more than 20 years.

A conservation officials on the other side of the country, on B.C. are searching for a young black bear on Vancouver Island. This animal attacked two men who were camping at the west end of Sproat Lake near Port Alberni. One of the survivors spoke with our Alan Waterman said he feels very lucky to be alive after all deal.
“He was in tent. I was a goner.”
Jay Vinden figures he is pretty lucky he and his fishing buddy spend its last four days in a remote camp about an hour west to Port Alberni. They see a young black bear nearby a couple of dozen times. Early Wednesday morning they saw the bear again.
“Hearing a snore and I was six inches face to face with a yelling black bear. The same bear. He took about two seconds to size me up and launch to my mid section, got me there and got me in my knee and then flipped me over with one hand like a pancake. And went for my head.”
The bear swept the patch of Vinden ‘s scale about 12 by 18 centimeters. And also clawed and chopped on his mid section before his partner Bruise Dodio distracted the bear. The bear started to attack Bruise. By that time, I got my life and went move to the snuff and way he went.”
Vinden was transported to Nanaimo Hospital, doctors are looking a possible plastic surgery. Dodio escaped to scratches. Back in the bush, conservation officers began track in the bear. Once located, it will be destroyed.

A conservation officials on the other side of the country, on B.C. are searching for a young black bear on Vancouver Island. This animal attacked two men who were camping at the west end of Sproat Lake near Port Alberni. One of the survivors spoke with our Alan Waterman said he feels very lucky to be alive after all deal.
“He was in tent. I was a goner.”
Jay Vinden figures he is pretty lucky he and his fishing buddy spend its last four days in a remote camp about an hour west to Port Alberni. They see a young black bear nearby a couple of dozen times. Early Wednesday morning they saw the bear again.
“Hearing a snore and I was six inches face to face with a yelling black bear. The same bear. He took about two seconds to size me up and launch to my mid section, got me there and got me in my knee and then flipped me over with one hand like a pancake. And went for my head.”
The bear swept the patch of Vinden ‘s scale about 12 by 18 centimeters. And also clawed and chopped on his mid section before his partner Bruise Dodio distracted the bear. The bear started to attack Bruise. By that time, I got my life and went move to the snuff and way he went.”
Vinden was transported to Nanaimo Hospital, doctors are looking a possible plastic surgery. Dodio escaped to scratches. Back in the bush, conservation officers began track in the bear. Once located, it will be destroyed.

BC lottery corporation is admitting today to a privacy breach that shutdown its online gaming site. Alan waterman has our top story tonight. Alan.
Tony, BC lottery corporation is under fire tonight with questions over that security breach cause by a online overload and that’s the only problem.
When BC lottery corporation went live with north America’s first online casino gambling site, its’ target was 100 million dollars of the online pie. But with the hours of the sites launch last Thursday, it was shutdown. The corporation admits a 134 accounts were compromise and a dozens people personal information was viewed from bank accounts to credit cards.
“There wasn’t just name and address, there was other information on the sites, such as password, security questions.”
BC’s privacy commissions wants customer credit reports monitored and she’s looking forward assurance from BCLC that all is fixed before the sites goes back online. Several IT computer experts think the sites was actually hacked or swamp by a competitor. BC lottery insist that isn’t the case.
“There has been none of that happen on the site, it is strictly volume.”
This criminal knowledge professor specializes the gambling issues and he has his doubts.
“It ‘s also the fair question to be asked whether or not this is a gadget that hasn’t been explored by online hackers.”
But the privacy breach is not the only problem facing BCLC, it’s also been fined by a federal watch doc. Under federal law all casino transactions greater than ten thousand must be reported as a save guard against money launching by criminals and territories organizations. The agency has just levied and fined $670,000 against BCLC. Corporations says the problem are clerical and software system that couldn’t communicate properly with the watch doc.
“Rather than going to another jurisdiction and using their system, we had the investment been made, we just need to walk through this and get the results in place.”
BC opposition politicians think a deeper look is needed.
“They’re now all issues seem to be compounding themselves about whether in fact this lottery corporation as working the way British Columbia expected to.”
So far it seems no signs of illegal transactions, but one customers of the online site contacted the CBC complaining that their BCLC account is now frozen and they can’t access the money to pay the bills.

If you’re looking to use BC lottery’s new online Casino, it’s still not in the cards. The site crashed just hours after last Thursday’s opening. BCLC claims higher than expected volume is to blame. Computer experts say this has the signs about bottle neck, a virus that lays the door into your computer, and hundred others like it, until a hacker decides to activate, sending a mass load of information to a target. You won’t know its there and you’ll still be able to use the computer.
“So you boat your arm, not to go off the gambling website like this, might be, and then you say look, you either pay us ex amount of, ten of thousands, hundreds of thousands dollars, so we shut Q down.”
You won’t know if your computer is been used by hackers this way, but there are things you can do to decrease the risk. Ignore email from someone you don’t know, install anti-virus, anti-spam software and put a firewall in place update that software regularly and the most important thing, shut down your computer when not in use. The BCLC said in an email there’s no evidence of hacking, but whether it’s a virus or volume. Vincalek believe they launched the site without being ready.
“It’s hard to imagine that after all the development which I assume they put in, after all the test thing which I assume they put in, few hours later they would go down.”

晕船小贴示
做了一次船有了些晕船的小贴示同大家分享：
1：船颠簸的时候尽量到船的中间部分呆着，避免在船头或船尾。
2：船上会有“青苹果”（在自助餐的地方），和“苏打饼干”（在船的大堂），这对晕船有好处。
3：尽量不要吃油腻的食物。
4：船上都会备有晕船药，问客房服务就可以了。

It is an amazing rescue story from British Columbia, earlier this week when a grass fire ravaged an area near peach land. RCMP officers rushed to get people out of their homes. And today those officers met up again with one of the women they saved. Alan Waterman picks up the story.
“They saved my life.”
Ann Colons is referring to Ryan Routely and Greg Barnhard, two RCMP constables who hold her out of the passable fire. What was a quiet hide way on Okanagan Lake became the frontline to a funeral, one house was burned the ground and Colon’s home came with the meters of the flames. Routely and Barnhard drove through the smoke to rescue residents. They broke down one door and found Colons was asleep on the sofa. Bu the fire then block the road out and the road SUV was sooning gloved.
“The decision was made we would take Ann and we would carry her down the bank. She didn’t like that idea, she said no. I’m gonna walk and pretty much told that she told us which route we should take.”
Colon says she was never scared.
“I was really excited, really excited, you’ll never can imagine how excited I was.”
A boat picked up the three of them, took them to the safety nearby peach land. And Colons’ home was spared, only the garage was lost.
“Fortunately, happy that everything turned out the way it did.”
Fittingly Colon’s family presented the tow officers with superman gift bags and inside is braved outdoor’s man’s knives.
“Oh, they’re my everyday hero, they were so good to me, they lived me, Oh, everything else.”

Every year thousands of people line up to get a peek at the PNE’s prize home. And they’ll get their chance tomorrow when the door is open to the public. But it seems not everyone got the memo. Box Nixon explains.
This is the day the PNE unbuilt its prize home to the media. And as usual, it is one fancy setup dates. But Alma Lenko, Arnold Baitz wanted to see for themselves. Not realizing the home only opens to the public on Friday. But how can you say no to a 93 years old and her 89 years old boy friend who currently living in a Coquitlam trailer park. I couldn’t. Neither could project manager, Barbra Elsword. They do not move as well as they used to. Arnold lost the leg to cancel 25 years ago, Alma got her cane. But given a private tour, they wanted to see it all. They inspected the wine seller, looked in on the media room, head up stairs to bedrooms and they love it all.
“I don’t want to go anywhere, if I have this home, I just want to stay at home, pinch myself everyday.”
I should told that Arnold and Alma have been buy prize tickets for decades, Arnold, this will be his 60th year and you know what he’s never won. But Arnold’s already thinking about moving to Kerolwa, with this 1.2m dollars home. Well enjoy view and Okanagan Lake.
“When I have, I will scroll it through until opening it. And turn the light off and on, and traversing.”
The chances of winning: very small. But at least they can dream the dream.
“See I can’t relate to the people with wealth live, you know, cuz I just lives as plant hunt wife, but I’ve been bless to opposes good seeks, but nothing like this.”
And who knows maybe this year, will be the one.

Bob Nixon’s found someone selling a traditional Canadian snack. It’s from back East and is usually a sign that spring is on the way.
It is mid July and crops are coming in to the main street farmers’ market, fresh vegetables, raspberries and blueberries, but then there’s Patrick Demers whose crop was harvest back to March.
“Traditionally find them at the farmer stores at the Québec, all sugar snacks.”
Yes, that all Canadian staple maple sugar from maple trees backing in Ontario and Québec. But Demers is bringing a bit of experience to BC.
“So what we have here is maple syrups boiled to soft frostage, what BC school kid has not heard tales of those lucky east nurse who pull the serve into this spring snow for a taste treat. Eva Kapsik sure has, she’s been here before.
“What it’s taste like?”
“Like heaven’s.”
So with the practice ten, Kapsik rolls up the maple truffle on to her stick. Trust me, it is fascinating to watch.
“It’s cool, because first of all usually do this in snow winter, you know, Canada all over the place. It’s cool you can do it in the middle summer in Vancouver when you don’t get snow.”
Where did you get the now?
It all depends who is asking. You know certain kids, tell them I’m a driver, and the other kids, ask for more, especially, I tell them I climb the mountain and get them on the way.

And parents take no, little kids like it too, even never have heard of this Canadian tradition.

阿拉斯加七日
阿拉斯加，上海话讲就是阿拉自家，平添几分亲切。我们乘坐邮轮来体验一下吧。
第一天看着邮轮缓缓离开码头，我并没有太多的兴奋，直到晚上在Theater听到船上的Entertainment Director问大家“How do you feel a vacation with no need to work, no cooking, no cleaning, nothing to worry?” 我才感到自己真地融入到休假的mood中。
接下来不好意思出去，认真听了一遍脱口秀。之前在电视上看，总是不能完全融入，这次在现场的氛围中虽然不很得要领，倒是更多地理解了白人。他们的生活当中不能没有幽默，而且他们的幽默显得非常自然。可能是他们的价值当中特别凸现的自我、自然、自信、Strong和智慧需要幽默来调剂与平衡。总的来讲开场秀相当不错，让人很放松。
第二天用一个字来表达就是晕。天气不好，早上由于好奇，点了一条fried fish, 吃到一半就不吃不下了，又叫了一碗oatmeal，回到船舱躺在床上休息。修空调的人看到我就说你的脸色是晕船的样子，我装作没事让他出去，过了一回儿我们房间的服务员进来就说你要是吐的话最好在马桶里吐，我让他出去后疯狂吃下了晕船药，可是已经晚了，我有生以来第一次勇敢地抱着一个马桶义无反顾地吐出了早饭。吐完后老婆扶我到船中间号称最稳的一个地方，那里是一个美丽的Bar, 由于是上午大多数位子空着，偶尔走过的游客投来好奇的目光，大概是我的形象和隔壁桌子两个安静阅读的老妇人产生了巨大的落差。我绝望地看着吧台和桌椅，尽量忘记背后窗外的大海。直到下午两点才基本恢复，看看波涛涌动的大海彻底对当年的航海家产生了崇拜，开个小帆船横过大洋那是什么样的体质啊。
第三天完全恢复，早上起来无法相信眼前tranquil的大海和昨天那个不停摇晃的是一个。感慨大自然的伟大和小小的人类的过渡自信，未知和不可控的东西还有很多。
这一天要上岸。主题是一个与世隔绝的小地方，叫做Icy Strait Point。没有深水码头，游客借助邮轮上的救生艇摆渡出入。码头上的酒吧、商店颇有现代气息，做旧明显，乏善可陈。有趣的是夹在当中有几个房子赫然写明是私人住所，房子旁边有他们小小的墓地、图腾柱、和一团篝火。很难想象这种地方人类如何生存。看到一个Ticket Center, 里面的大婶说买的票是到镇上去看where they live, 立即产生了兴趣。这个小镇的居民应该是只有几百人，房屋大多老旧，而且较小，两个商店居然写着是上个世纪就开始营业的，小小的旅馆能有两间客房就不错了。最气派的建筑有两个：教堂和学校。这学校是镇上的最高学府，学制从preschool、小学到中学。正在疑问路边的小房子里是否真的有人住，正好看到两个人回来，往屋里拿面包，司机说他们只能开车上Ferry到几十里外的Juneau采购。这个小镇清楚体现了所谓的阿拉斯加精神—勇敢，这个字忠实地写在小镇学校的外墙上。镇上的探险者们没有因为地处偏远而放弃对生活质量的追求。
第四天邮轮摇摇晃晃地指向本次航行的最北端Hubbard Glacier。当海面上的碎冰越来越多的时候，探险的感觉来了。站在十二楼的甲板上远远望去，宽阔的海面上漂浮着大大小小的冰块，大的有我们的救生艇大小，小的若隐若现，黑色、灰色、白色、蓝色和透明的都有，稀疏地接向水天交界的一团明亮白光当中。低头看看，传统的深灰色海水变成了蓝色，显得非常洁净。映衬之下，有些半融化的冰块更显得蓝的清澈透明。船上的人们已不顾风雨，大多走上甲板，在冰冷的空气中欣赏自然的造化。船速越来越慢，船长通过广播不断说明我们今天的天气不好，为安全起见可能不会靠冰川太近，但是船没有停，还是谨慎地向白雾当中前进。我因为两只脚都进了水，回船舱换袜子，抬头发现岸边黑白相间的雪山已经很近，兴奋地跑上船头。就像孙猴子钻进水帘洞一样，这里没有雨，1.5海里外的冰川清楚地呈现在眼前。100FT高的冰川横跨大半个海面，苍茫白色的断层上夹杂着晶莹的蓝色。上面隐约接着白雾。偶尔有成片冰块劈落入海，犹如小山，隆隆作响，掀起白色烟尘。也许由于这个原因，这里的海水混浊如泥浆。冰川西侧与山体交界处渐呈黑色，接着是一个较小的冰川，从山体上滑出，像密集的钟乳石群，黑白相间。面对冰冷、洁净的苍茫冰川，听着冰块入海的声音，在感慨人类渺小的同时也颇觉自豪，也只有人类才能上天入地，千里迢迢来欣赏大自然的杰作，探险和征服应该算是人类最伟大的精神之一吧。
看到浮冰上的小海狮懒洋洋地滑入海中倒是有些伤感，不知道啥时候才能再见面呢。
掉头南下，第五天我们要造访阿拉斯加的首府Juneau. 相传阿拉斯加初购自俄罗斯，颇为国人诟病，因其冰冻贫瘠。历十数载，乃有Juneau公酒醉，负黄金自此地回，始开埔，阿拉斯加兴焉。地处Tongass国家森林中心的城市精致而清爽，房屋建筑或依山而建或集中于海边，据旅游车司机讲，这海边的地块之前全都是海水。State Capitol Building里的小姑娘说这里是典型的雨林气候，常年湿润，风和日丽的天气非常少见。云雾缭绕中，这个三万人口的省会城市显得很迷人。夹海的山势较为陡峭，于是高高低低的云雾就缠绕在青山、森林、和房屋之间映得每种颜色更加清楚。云雾飘动得很快，刚才还在猜想高高岩壁上该是什么，抬头就开建一条细细的瀑布凌空而降，再抬头发现旁边另外一座山上也有一条，等回去拿了照相机准备拍照，却又只看见云雾中的山峰了。淘金者建造的Juneau现在的主要经济来源是政府管理。继黄金之后阿拉斯加又发现了多种资源，其中石油成就了最赚钱的生意，于是政府的一项最重要的职能就是管资源管钱，我们参加了State Capitol Building的免费Tour, 介绍的小姑娘先是带我们去看Finance Committee开会的地方，接着就是Finance Committee表决的场所，可见管钱是何等的重要。政府的石油资金由专门的基金管理公司运作，每个阿拉斯加居民每年可以从中分得一千到三千元不等的红利。除教堂外，城市的主要建筑都多少与政府相关：State Capitol Building, Government Building, Office Building, 还有一个Art Center。这个小城是阿拉斯加的心脏，管理着美国最大领土面积州的资源和民生。
没有搞清楚司机大哥说的Mel Jibson家是哪一间房子，倒是觉得Juneau停符合此人的银幕风格，带给人探险的刺激。
第六天上岸的小城Kechikan是一个贸易中心，号称阿拉斯加第一城。贯穿Downtown入海的Kechikan Creek是城市的亮点。清澈山溪两岸的房屋色彩斑斓，宛如童话世界，有的建在岸边的岩石上，有的借助木桩半跨在溪水上面。Trail蜿蜒其间，行走在Trail上有人在画中游的感觉。溪水时而湍急喧闹，时而平静，每一段都很干净，大概是由于气温较低水生物较少的原因，透明度很高。入海口的铁桥上一群人在垂钓，不远处时而有笨笨的三文鱼跃出水面。
如同Juneau一样，走在Kechikan街头经常可以看到的是美国的国鸟白头鹰，这种威武、干净的食肉大鸟吃的是水中的鱼类，飞翔在空中显得翼展很大，翼尖像张开的手指。不太见到白头鹰如鸽子般频繁扑打翅膀，更多的是翱翔。
第七天全都在船上，休息之余参加了一些活动，基本上和其他六天一样：画水彩画、掷飞镖、听音乐猜电视节目、猜词义、还有就是观赏音乐、舞蹈、魔术和脱口秀表演，撇开技术水准，表演的编排还是很不错，叙事能力较强。告别秀上的一段舞蹈还是让人颇有感触，在展示了欧洲、美国、和亚洲不同国家的特色舞蹈之后，舞者告诉观众，这些都是我们乘坐的水银号到过的地方。真的希望能像他们一样环游世界探索发现，告别了神秘而巨大的鲸鱼，下一次转头看到伴随邮轮游动的该是什么呢？
第一天看着邮轮缓缓离开码头，我并没有太多的兴奋，直到晚上在Theater听到船上的Entertainment Director问大家“How do you feel a vacation with no need to work, no cooking, no cleaning, nothing to worry?” 我才感到自己真地融入到休假的mood中。
接下来不好意思出去，认真听了一遍脱口秀。之前在电视上看，总是不能完全融入，这次在现场的氛围中虽然不很得要领，倒是更多地理解了白人。他们的生活当中不能没有幽默，而且他们的幽默显得非常自然。可能是他们的价值当中特别凸现的自我、自然、自信、Strong和智慧需要幽默来调剂与平衡。总的来讲开场秀相当不错，让人很放松。
第二天用一个字来表达就是晕。天气不好，早上由于好奇，点了一条fried fish, 吃到一半就不吃不下了，又叫了一碗oatmeal，回到船舱躺在床上休息。修空调的人看到我就说你的脸色是晕船的样子，我装作没事让他出去，过了一回儿我们房间的服务员进来就说你要是吐的话最好在马桶里吐，我让他出去后疯狂吃下了晕船药，可是已经晚了，我有生以来第一次勇敢地抱着一个马桶义无反顾地吐出了早饭。吐完后老婆扶我到船中间号称最稳的一个地方，那里是一个美丽的Bar, 由于是上午大多数位子空着，偶尔走过的游客投来好奇的目光，大概是我的形象和隔壁桌子两个安静阅读的老妇人产生了巨大的落差。我绝望地看着吧台和桌椅，尽量忘记背后窗外的大海。直到下午两点才基本恢复，看看波涛涌动的大海彻底对当年的航海家产生了崇拜，开个小帆船横过大洋那是什么样的体质啊。
第三天完全恢复，早上起来无法相信眼前tranquil的大海和昨天那个不停摇晃的是一个。感慨大自然的伟大和小小的人类的过渡自信，未知和不可控的东西还有很多。
这一天要上岸。主题是一个与世隔绝的小地方，叫做Icy Strait Point。没有深水码头，游客借助邮轮上的救生艇摆渡出入。码头上的酒吧、商店颇有现代气息，做旧明显，乏善可陈。有趣的是夹在当中有几个房子赫然写明是私人住所，房子旁边有他们小小的墓地、图腾柱、和一团篝火。很难想象这种地方人类如何生存。看到一个Ticket Center, 里面的大婶说买的票是到镇上去看where they live, 立即产生了兴趣。这个小镇的居民应该是只有几百人，房屋大多老旧，而且较小，两个商店居然写着是上个世纪就开始营业的，小小的旅馆能有两间客房就不错了。最气派的建筑有两个：教堂和学校。这学校是镇上的最高学府，学制从preschool、小学到中学。正在疑问路边的小房子里是否真的有人住，正好看到两个人回来，往屋里拿面包，司机说他们只能开车上Ferry到几十里外的Juneau采购。这个小镇清楚体现了所谓的阿拉斯加精神—勇敢，这个字忠实地写在小镇学校的外墙上。镇上的探险者们没有因为地处偏远而放弃对生活质量的追求。
第四天邮轮摇摇晃晃地指向本次航行的最北端Hubbard Glacier。当海面上的碎冰越来越多的时候，探险的感觉来了。站在十二楼的甲板上远远望去，宽阔的海面上漂浮着大大小小的冰块，大的有我们的救生艇大小，小的若隐若现，黑色、灰色、白色、蓝色和透明的都有，稀疏地接向水天交界的一团明亮白光当中。低头看看，传统的深灰色海水变成了蓝色，显得非常洁净。映衬之下，有些半融化的冰块更显得蓝的清澈透明。船上的人们已不顾风雨，大多走上甲板，在冰冷的空气中欣赏自然的造化。船速越来越慢，船长通过广播不断说明我们今天的天气不好，为安全起见可能不会靠冰川太近，但是船没有停，还是谨慎地向白雾当中前进。我因为两只脚都进了水，回船舱换袜子，抬头发现岸边黑白相间的雪山已经很近，兴奋地跑上船头。就像孙猴子钻进水帘洞一样，这里没有雨，1.5海里外的冰川清楚地呈现在眼前。100FT高的冰川横跨大半个海面，苍茫白色的断层上夹杂着晶莹的蓝色。上面隐约接着白雾。偶尔有成片冰块劈落入海，犹如小山，隆隆作响，掀起白色烟尘。也许由于这个原因，这里的海水混浊如泥浆。冰川西侧与山体交界处渐呈黑色，接着是一个较小的冰川，从山体上滑出，像密集的钟乳石群，黑白相间。面对冰冷、洁净的苍茫冰川，听着冰块入海的声音，在感慨人类渺小的同时也颇觉自豪，也只有人类才能上天入地，千里迢迢来欣赏大自然的杰作，探险和征服应该算是人类最伟大的精神之一吧。
看到浮冰上的小海狮懒洋洋地滑入海中倒是有些伤感，不知道啥时候才能再见面呢。
掉头南下，第五天我们要造访阿拉斯加的首府Juneau. 相传阿拉斯加初购自俄罗斯，颇为国人诟病，因其冰冻贫瘠。历十数载，乃有Juneau公酒醉，负黄金自此地回，始开埔，阿拉斯加兴焉。地处Tongass国家森林中心的城市精致而清爽，房屋建筑或依山而建或集中于海边，据旅游车司机讲，这海边的地块之前全都是海水。State Capitol Building里的小姑娘说这里是典型的雨林气候，常年湿润，风和日丽的天气非常少见。云雾缭绕中，这个三万人口的省会城市显得很迷人。夹海的山势较为陡峭，于是高高低低的云雾就缠绕在青山、森林、和房屋之间映得每种颜色更加清楚。云雾飘动得很快，刚才还在猜想高高岩壁上该是什么，抬头就开建一条细细的瀑布凌空而降，再抬头发现旁边另外一座山上也有一条，等回去拿了照相机准备拍照，却又只看见云雾中的山峰了。淘金者建造的Juneau现在的主要经济来源是政府管理。继黄金之后阿拉斯加又发现了多种资源，其中石油成就了最赚钱的生意，于是政府的一项最重要的职能就是管资源管钱，我们参加了State Capitol Building的免费Tour, 介绍的小姑娘先是带我们去看Finance Committee开会的地方，接着就是Finance Committee表决的场所，可见管钱是何等的重要。政府的石油资金由专门的基金管理公司运作，每个阿拉斯加居民每年可以从中分得一千到三千元不等的红利。除教堂外，城市的主要建筑都多少与政府相关：State Capitol Building, Government Building, Office Building, 还有一个Art Center。这个小城是阿拉斯加的心脏，管理着美国最大领土面积州的资源和民生。
没有搞清楚司机大哥说的Mel Jibson家是哪一间房子，倒是觉得Juneau停符合此人的银幕风格，带给人探险的刺激。

The teen age known as the barefoot bandit is cooling his heels in the jails tonight after the police in the Bahamas captured him yesterday. 19 year old Colton Harris Moore was arrested after police shut out the engines on the booty he stolen. He apparently arrived in Bahamas a week ago after crash landing a plane he had stolen in the US. Harris Colton with a criminal record going back to age 12 is escaped two years ago from a half way house in Washington State. A self taught pilot, he is wanted for crimes across the US and is suspected at the airport breaking in south east BC. He got his nick name from the fact that he apparently committed himself that he was barefoot, but his age and explore give him a huge following online. Theresa Lalonde has that story.
There’s no doubt Colton Harris Moore is an online bandit hero, not just one but dozens face book fan pages and people playing around with the story. You can put your face in his body or actor you like, Robert Padison or Michael Sara, the bandit hero also has the YouTube bait and there’s T-shirts. The CBC has interviewed his fans.
“Today is Colton’s birthday, and you know this?”
“Yes. I do know that. I mean there’s a lot of information out there in the internet.”
The thing is about so called criminals turned call hero. They’re having an adventure. And these days we got follow that adventure online.
“Each of those successive incidence of stolen vehicle, stolen speed boats, stolen plane, you know breaking into a restaurant and only taking enough food for yourself to eat, leaving choc footmarks on the ground. Always been barefoot those are really strong thing to sort of have this story standout.”
Kemp Edmonds says it’s hard to know how much of the online fur is filled by fantasy.
“Something amazing or makes them laugh that tense to be what the kind of things they share.”
There is an anti barefoot bandit foot page with a small following. More people learn out buying free Colton T-shirt then sending money to fan pages to his defense. Harris Moore apparently has laptop with him when arrested. Fling it in the water as police closed in.

Was busy weekend for conservation officers in Vancouver. They had not one, but two black bears to deal with, once again it’s not the animals but people who will be blamed for problem. Justin Ma reports.
Neighbors can’t help but gotta get him. This 150 kilogram back bear is the latest be caught entering a home.
“The bear did enter a house, poked in by a window, pushed its screen.”
He let officers chasing him through the valley before they track and tranquilized him. He’s tried to run and sack in homes before.
“He’s been a problem bear for several years, been habituated by humans.”
Luckily he’ll get a second chance, he’ll be relocated to North Squamish, just as officers finished dealing with him, they rush off another bear’s been spotted.
“He was afraid at human at a certainly, I mean, what I saw, people must, you know, pop their hands and he was just ignoring them.”
Officers track him down in the bush, this large bear had terrorized the neighborhood, breaking into homes and rummage through garbage. About 7 years old, he’s been captured before, only this time he’ll be destroyed.
“He’s too eventuated to people, and he’s loss of his fears to human.”
Residences say it’s the lesson more people need to learn.
“How sad that happened you know there’s warnings all over the place, don’t leave garbage.”
“It’s human’s problem for doing that, for feeding them garbage.”
This is the second bear to be put down this year. Tow weeks ago officer shot and killed another large bear. It had broken into the cars and sheds and even killed a pet rabbit. Conservationer say if people want to prevent more death, they have to do better job for securing their garbage.

And now for unexpected summer sport, a great way to keep cool and maybe work becoming Canada’s next big skiing sensation. Some young athletes went Whistler this week doing all of that and getting instruction from an Olympic gold medalist. Lisa Johnson reports.
It’ll be a pretty fun summer camp for any twelve year old. But these kids hope to become champion in the Mogul skiing and their coach this week none other than the best in the world.
“I have kids that are really inspired of skiing and I’m trying to pass my passion on.”
We all know where that passion led Alexandre Bilodeau. The Vancouver 2010 Olympics and Canada’s first Olympic gold on home soil. This glacier on blacal mountain was built as summer play ground as the preteen, the future Olympian who was one of the campers themselves.
“It’s fun for me to be back her, another same camp, same place, exactly same place.”
Bilodeau started status season lost on these kids.
“After Olympic so everybody know who he is, it was really cool to get meet him.”
But they had heard Bilodeau a long time before that from the world cup circuit. They’re not casual skiers, in clearly valued, it’s the once a life time experience of learning from the experts.
“They teacher us what they learned from their coach. So it’s like being on the national team.”
One week isn’t much time to learn but they do get a chance to try jumps that will be too dangerous to learn over snow, using this airbag. It’s landing pad so soft in mimic water. Biodeau has tips to improve their technique. But says that’s no the most important part.
“Technical side, it’s good. But I mean they, these kids won’t touch snow until at almost November. So they poise, but anyway they’ll be so stove to getting back to their skis. Just because they been here being skiing with us.”
Bilodeau went on to compete against the skiers who had coach him here and join them on the podium at world cup. He hopes to see some of these campers get there too.

They may still be celebrating or drowning their solos down the Granville Street right now, despite the sunny weather. Many eyes were focused on TV screens today to watch the world cup soccer’s semi-final. Maggie drew that in a viable assignment today.
Fans breath the heat on Granville street to support their favorite tam. Hundreds gather to watch the semi final game between Spain and Germany, tempting many to play a hookie.
“I’m just taking a little break and I’ll make up for late tonight.”
“I don’t think you are alone though.”
“No. I think a lot of people are taking break right now. It’s the feast to watch the game.”
Inside the Granville street pubs, people give new meanings to term business lunch.
“We have to watch the games.”
“What’s more important?”
“Work, my career and the world cup. The world cup by just a little bit.”
“I think most of the employers are giving some leave to staffs to come on watch the games. Especially the downtown quarry see a lot of staff taking extra half hour sort of watch, watch good soccer game.”
But that doesn’t mean he is relaxing.
“As soon as I t done, I’ll taxi it all. I’ll get back to work right way.”
Dow the street more of the same, but the international students they don’t work, won’t too worry.
“We can skip like that, that’s OK, world cup is the only one.”
We’re going to win, they shouted, not just for the bottle, it ended up being a cyclic prediction. Outside happiness was in the air, for some. German fans never got the chance to scream or shout, defeated again. Just like 2008, when Spain beat the Germany at the Euro Cup. German fans have to be happy with the consolation price, they play Uruguay on Saturday.
“And we went third.”
Their soccer fans once again take over banner and scream it, but not for now it back to work.

The Vancouver Canucks have a new home, it’s the same place, just under a different name. The arena will no longer been known as GM place. It’s now Rogers Arena. The Canucks made a 10 years sponsorship agreement with Rogers communications today. The media giant now has the broadcast naming and the wireless rights for the Canucks. A fist for any company in Canada.
“It’s very exciting, as I said it’s not just the branding expect both on ice and off ice, but also extending in the community, leavening our technologies. And one of the things obviously we believed is that taking the game into the fans where they might be.”
General Motor still had another 5 years on its naming right deal. Bu the company agree to relinquish those rights. It will still be significant cooperate partner though for the Canucks. And there’s been huge amount of reaction to the cooperate name change online today. The internet peanut gallery has been over flooring, since the news broke. Theresa Lalonde has that part of the story.
At first, people on twitter thought Telus will take the naming right. Because the Canucks registered the internet domain name Telusplace.com a while ago. So then the jab started. Why not call it Telusseum. But turned out, it was another cooperation involve, Rogers. As soon as with official, Rogers Arena became the trendy subject on twitter. The website shows the top conversations in Vancouver at that time. You have to notice the irony. Hundred of people on twitter, online people making fun of the fact that telecommunication’s giant taking over the name of the arena. It’s started saying why not name it “lack of customer service place”. But that doesn’t really roll off the tough. Other complains, “Rogers Arena sounds way to Ontario. Toronto’s big ice ring is called Rogers Center. Rovena, Rorena, Rogena.” And saw couples of sweet “brilliant name, we rock, get a beer.”
More joke saying “welcome to Mr. Rogers neighborhood. Expect referees to drop the calls, tickets must be bought with a three year contracts. I’ll soon see the Kenny Rogers in Rogers Arena.” And asking for nick name. the online crowd like the bone booth, although one person online suggested the IDONE, you know IPHONE, IDONE.

The Canucks made a 10 years sponsorship agreement with Rogers communications today. The media giant now has the broadcast naming and the wireless rights for the Canucks. A fist for any company in Canada.
“It’s very exciting, as I said it’s not just the branding expect both on ice and off ice, but also extending in the community, leavening our technologies. And one of the things obviously we believed is that taking the game into the fans where they might be.”
General Motor still had another 5 years on its naming right deal. Bu the company agree to relinquish those rights. It will still be significant cooperate partner though for the Canucks. And there’s been huge amount of reaction to the cooperate name change online today. The internet peanut gallery has been over flooring, since the news broke. Theresa Lalonde has that part of the story.
At first, people on twitter thought Telus will take the naming right. Because the Canucks registered the internet domain name Telusplace.com a while ago. So then the jab started. Why not call it Telusseum. But turned out, it was another cooperation involve, Rogers. As soon as with official, Rogers Arena became the trendy subject on twitter. The website shows the top conversations in Vancouver at that time. You have to notice the irony. Hundred of people on twitter, online people making fun of the fact that telecommunication’s giant taking over the name of the arena. It’s started saying why not name it “lack of customer service place”. But that doesn’t really roll off the tough. Other complains, “Rogers Arena sounds way to Ontario. Toronto’s big ice ring is called Rogers Center. Rovena, Rorena, Rogena.” And saw couples of sweet “brilliant name, we rock, get a beer.”
More joke saying “welcome to Mr. Rogers neighborhood. Expect referees to drop the calls, tickets must be bought with a three year contracts. I’ll soon see the Kenny Rogers in Rogers Arena.” And asking for nick name. the online crowd like the bone booth, although one person online suggested the IDONE, you know IPHONE, IDONE.

It seems like the sun and heat about finally on their way. In the coming day the temperature is expected to climb to 30 degrees. But are our Vancouver really ready for heat wave? Here is Bob Nixon.
The weather officer Rumer Mill thinks sunny hot weather will finally arriving Vancouver this week, after a month of chill. How can people protect themselves?
“Dehydrated, drink a lot of water.”
“Wear lots of sun screen.”
There’s been so many force and alarm about the summer is gonna finally arrive. That I don’t really want get our hopes up too much today, but I did see something on the beach, along the sea wall here, make me think it will happen. And that is full fondle needs. “I’m looking for more than 31,32 in land.”
“So you’re gonna prepare for by sitting even more here?”
“Exactly, it’s about time.”

Well, after a long raining spring, summer is finally here, or isn’t. Our Bob Nixon head to the beach today and was shocked what he found. Here’s Bob.
Old plum, suave warm July, sun for tending, sand for digging, but wait, what’s this.
There is no great indication of the kind of cool summer we’ve had so far. Then to find even on a warm day, a kid who brings a solar blanket to the beach. Her name is Anna Durane, nine years old and when she headed off the Spanish Banks, she came prepared.
“It came to me, I have it.”
“Where do you keep it?”
“In my room. I got it when I were camping and it was really cold day, winter.”
And that is the turned out, she needed it. Sure it was sunny, but the ocean side temprerature never make it to 20 degrees.
“You needed it to a day like this?”
“After you go into the water.”
“How cold you are? How cold was the water?”
“It was actually quite warm, but the wind is kind of strong.”
Shelving not far away is her cousin Katie, wet from the sea and used to the tropics.
“It’s very cold, it’s always raining.”
“Where’re you from?”
“Toronto.”
“How is the weather there?”
“It’s very, very warm, like 30 degrees all the time.”
“You mad a big mistake to coming here?”
“No, it’s fine, it’s just cold.”
Let us hope that is about to change and Anna can put away her solar blanket into summer storage.
“You know it’s gotta be that cold?”
“No. I just like making forts with it. It works.”
