We begin tonight with the dramatic developing story in British Columbia. A major landslide has structured near Oliver, the Okanagan valley. We have worried a numbers of homes have been berried or swept away. Rosa Marchitelli is in Vancouver gathering the latest information for us. Rosa.

Well, Heather. There’re a lot of unknowns at the point, but we do know that landslide happened just before 3PM, Pacific Time, about 8 kilometers outside the BC town of Oliver. Now this is a massive slide, we’re told it covers a 500 foot area. The mud is 4 to 5 feet deep. Rescue cruises are in the area right now, searching for anyone berried in the mud. A helicopter has also been caught in to gather information of the extensive in the air. And officers aren’t even sure at this point how many houses are berried. Reports rang from 7 to 20. So as you say this is very much a developing story.

Do we know at this point, Rosa, if everybody made it out of those houses in time or there still might be people inside?

Well, that is a big question of course. As I mentioned rescue cruises are digging through the mud right now. And there are reports that some residents have about 5 minute’s heads up and were able to get out. Fire cruise have been able to get to a few houses as well, and found those houses were empty, but there are many more that need to be checked. So it’s way too early to say everyone got out OK.

Ok, this is the early in the story as you say, but do we know at this point what happen to trigger the slide.

Well, that too is something officials are working on, one serial is a stream on a nearby mountain somehow became blocked; maybe by rocks, maybe by trees and that blockage give way this afternoon causing this massive slide. A major highway in the area highway 97 is closed in definitely. It’s under the 5 feet mud, and we’re told water is still coming down. Heather.

All right, Rosa, thank you so much. Rosa Marchitelli with those developing details in Vancouver tonight.
