So as you hear Home Depot is promising refunds to those you can approve they were over charged. But what’s the provincial government doing all about extra tax money in its coffer, Eric Rankin has that story.

Well, you might be wondering is Victoria going to penalize Home Depot for this big mistake or maybe did put it into provincial conferences to make sure millions are ended up with a quickly returned. The answer seems to be No. on both counts. It’ll be up to you to get your own refund.

Home Depot customers are doing yourself types, most don’t want their refunds to be DIY.

“Yes, that’s sucks.”

“That’s just awful. I think they made enough money especially off me.”

People right to the top to the man who ended up with the tax windfall.

“Certainly we do receive complains they are all followed up on and we have our investigators, auditors that, that will looking into the issues that will brought to our attention.”

Another word, you have to complain, but what about issuing refund?

“Well I can’t comment on any particular investigation or complain.”

We were able to get this from the financial minister. Customers are entitle to a 7% PST refund, if you have your receipt as Cathy mentioned. You can go directly to Home Depot to get your money back, but the minister says it might be easier to go to its webpage and collect from government. The only problem you can’t get refund there for a claim of less than $10, the good news you can get your money back within four years from the date tax is improperly collected. So, good enough for overcharged Home Depot customers?

“Under $10, but how many times you come here, it really accumulates.”

“You don’t feel can try it about anything, so I take it as a loss.”

“As customers are getting holes again.”

We asked Home Depot just how much money they though they have over collected from BC tax payers. They said determining that wasn’t the priority right now. Meanwhile the provincial government says it would not penalize Home Depot for the tax mistake, adding they’ll been contact and have them revise their taxation process.
