Game show classroom

Game show’s made them popular, but now students and some professors out UBC are using them in class. Our on line interactive reporter, Teresa Lalone has more on the latest education technology.

This isn’t the science class you remember. Students don’t use pens, they use clickers to choose their answers to the day’s quiz question. It’s not only different for the students, even the way the class is prepared is new. “Often when professors give fracture given lectures give the previous term than that’s too much to change. But here I need to modify every lecture before every class based on the responds of students to do an online survey the day before.” The clickers are much like the ones used on this popular game show. “So talk with your neighbors and figure out the best answer.”

“I think they help us engaging class more, like we definitely working groups.”

“It makes it go by fast, like we look up the clock and we are like, oh my god, it’s over already.”

“It’s a great system, it’s a like keep you on track.” The technology keep students engage but also keeps the teacher on track. “And I’m on the though that I present thing like a clear way, but then when I hear the results from the students with the clicker, response. Then I know well they got it or maybe I need try again. Critics of technology in the classroom worry about pondering to the wired generation to leaner to create past paste to stay focus. Stull says that is the part of the reason why the clicker is work, but the basic tendency of teaching remains. “We still want the students to learn and understand new facts and that part of the question hasn’t been changed.” Students get fifteen percent of their mark for the click participation and 5 percent bonus if their answer is right. A growing number of UBC professors using the teaching aid.
