Home Inspector Must Pay

Well now I hear some news that could have major impact on the home buyers across the country. A judging British Columbia has awarded Vancouver couple 200,000 dollars in compensation for a bad home inspection. Chris Brown is here with details on this.

Peter, this case involves the couple from North Vancouver who in 2006 spend 1.1million dollars on the home on the mountain slope. They hired a house inspector for 450 dollars, but the judge determined the man spent just 30 minutes looking at the outside of the building. He reported some problem of soil erosion and with some of rafters, total cost to fix 20,000 dollars said at the inspector. With only after the couple moved in and they found the rotten foundation problems was for more extensive, requiring 200,000 dollars repairs. The judger ruled the inspector’s report that did not clearly present the significance of the problems observed and that the liability waver didn’t protect inspector in part because the couple had very little time to read and understand what was in the contract.. People in the home inspect industry says that this ruling likable to tougher guidelines across Canada. Some of these standards if not all of them are very basic and nature. And you now as we speak can case judgment on the building without any degree of expertise. And this is what the standards at this time. And they will continue to be written. At this time is very loosely, very loosely defined.

Home inspector at this case was recommended by the couple’s real estate agent. So better to get someone who is independent. Also get everything aout the house in writing and don’t rush it. An through house inspection can take up to a day.
