Park Board Cuts

The Vancouver park board will hold a special meeting tonight to consider almost three million dollars in cuts. And on the chopping blog are tow venerable institutions, the bloedel conservatory and stanley park petting zoo. Time Weeks has the story.

The farm yard is closed now are workers set up for the stanley park white night Christmas display. It’s a traditional going back decade. Children meeting the animals and wondering what they might say.

If they could talk, they may not be quite that upbeat now. The animals could soon be without job. The Vancouver park board is looking to make up for a 2.8 million dollars shortfall and the farm yard is the target. Park board is contributing or subsidizing it to a 160,000 dollars a year. And there are visitors obviously come and see. That I have concern personally, but there are some tough decisions we have to make. One of those tough choices also involves Vancouver landmark. Backing 1969, when the city decided to really highlight the Queen Elizabeth park and unveil Harry more’s sculpture. But the real highlight was going to be the result of the huge million dollar donation, the Bloedel conservatory. It was big news when it open the modern building holding unique plants, birds but appeartly hats. The park board says the building like the hat is not as popular as once it was. We are not deciding on which direction we are going to walk. We gonna demodern the shape or what we gonna do. We haven’t gone there yet. There might be someone who might be interest in taking over the Bloedel for all we know. Raj syas the park board plan to discontinue the 250,000 dollars a year to pay to subsidize it. Says the cuts are necessary in order to preserve Co-programme offered by the board. The special public meeting will be hold tonight to discuss the cuts.
